Senior AI Platform Engineer & Technical Engineering Consultant

I've been writing software for a living since 2008. I started with research software and e-commerce integrations, then moved to remote product work, managed an engineering team, and built developer tooling used across a whole company.

These days I work on AI platforms: the product and backend code around LLMs, and the agent workflows engineers use to ship with them. I also help teams work out where AI helps in their process and where it gets in the way.

Primary expertise

The work I do most, whether I'm writing the code or leading the people who write it.

AI Platforms & Agentic Engineering

I build the software around LLMs: API integrations, agents and tool calls, MCP servers, and the backend and UI that turn a model into a product people can depend on.

  • Claude API & Claude Code
  • Agents, subagents & orchestration
  • Tool use & Model Context Protocol
  • Prompt processing & session management
  • AI-assisted engineering workflows

Software & Platform Architecture

Splitting systems into sensible parts, designing APIs and integrations, and planning migrations. I write RFCs and prefer designs a team can still maintain in five years.

  • System design & RFCs
  • API & integration design
  • Monolith-to-SPA migration
  • Distributed & service-oriented systems
  • Technical strategy

Web Platform Engineering

JavaScript has been my main language for most of my career. I've written Node.js services, React applications and a shared UI kit that other teams build on.

  • TypeScript & JavaScript
  • React & frontend architecture
  • GraphQL & Apollo
  • Node.js
  • Design systems & UI kits

Engineering Productivity

CI/CD, shared tooling, stack standardization and automated code review. I use AI agents in my own daily work and help other teams set up similar workflows.

  • Developer experience
  • CI/CD & GitHub Actions
  • Code review automation
  • Stack standardization
  • Multi-agent development workflows

Technical Leadership

I've managed a team, run planning, mentored engineers and interviewed candidates. Much of the job is splitting big projects into pieces people can finish and keeping everyone in the loop.

  • Engineering management
  • Initiative decomposition
  • Mentoring & technical interviewing
  • Team processes & Scrum
  • Cross-team alignment

Experience

Most of my career has been in web platforms. Over time the work moved from writing code toward architecture, team leadership and, lately, AI platforms.

Global remote-first tech company

Remote · 2016 – Present

  1. Senior AI Platform Engineer

    – Present

    • Deliver features for an internal AI platform, working on the UI, prompt processing, session management and backend integrations.
    • Use AI-assisted development every day and keep improving the setup: multi-agent orchestration, parallel runs, automated code review and QA.
  2. Senior Frontend Engineer · Developer Experience team

    –

    • Worked on the company-wide UI kit and on CI/CD tooling to standardize the stack and cut its costs (React, GraphQL, Apollo, GitHub Actions, MCP).
    • Took part in architecture discussions and fixed problems in internal projects used across the company.
  3. Engineering Manager

    –

    • Managed a full-stack team. Planned and built the migration of a large internal system from a monolith to a single-page app.
    • Set up team processes and coordination with other teams. Mentored engineers on both technical and people skills.
  4. Software Engineer · Freelance

    –

    • Freelance projects for clients abroad, often also as tech lead or product owner. Work included bike rental stock and payments, geospatial data management and website management systems.

How I engineer

  1. Own the outcome

Code and architecture are tools. What counts is that the right thing ships and keeps working after release.

  2. AI helps, people decide

I use AI agents every day. They make good engineers faster, but review, ownership and judgment stay with people.

  3. Keep it simple

I pick simple designs, clear ownership and proven tools. Fashionable architecture usually costs more than it gives back.

  4. Stay hands-on

I still write code and review pull requests. It's hard to lead technical work once you lose touch with the codebase.

Consulting

I can join as an engineer who writes code, or work at the architecture and leadership level. Usually it ends up being a mix of both.
